Renovation

I've bougth our family home which is an old working class house. The house number 55 and the neighbouring house 53 -- in which my mothers side grandmother and father lived -- where build by two brothers. The land was bougth in 1899 and building was finished in 1900. The drawings were registered in 1906 the first year of the Haarlem register. In 1926 the house was transferred from Schoten to Haarlem.

The first owner was a carpenter, followed by a copl who lived there almost their entire live. My mother bought the house from them.

In the years a lot has be done to thwe house; the attic was put into a secondary bedroom, hallway, sort of a tini bathroom, and a small garret; in the kitchen the two granite sinks and stone furnace were removed; the alcove with bedstead seperating the front and aft room was removed; all off the stained glass has been removed (Except for the slding doors that now seperate the front and aft room); and the plastered ceiling ornaments have been removed and the ceilings were badly tiled with polystyreen tiles.

With this renovation will not only be everything be restored in the origional building style, also the available space will be increased. The new kitchen section will extend further into the garden and a second floor wil be build.

Day by day progress

I try to take pictures covering all the work done day by day. I decided to let the weekends count for 1 entry only because it is hard enough to not to forget to take pictures. More than once just after closing up, covering, or removing something I think, darn I should have taken a picture of it first.

Drawings

In this section I will place all the origional drawings and the drawings or the new situation.
